Plumed Whistling-duck Dendrocygna eytoni

Kakadu, Northern Territory, Australia
October 2013
The Plumed Whistling-duck is distributed in the north and east of Australia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found on grasslands and at the edges
of pools and swamps.

Unlike other Whistling-ducks it is quite at home on land where it feeds on grasses, sedges and seeds. It feeds
mainly at night and spends the day close by water. This trait led to an alternative name in the past which was Grass Whistling-duck. The Wandering
Whistling-duck D. arcuata has been known as the Water Whistling-duck. |
