Kakadu, Northern Territory, Australia October 2013 The Pied Heron is distributed in northern Australia, New Guinea and some surrounding islands. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in salt and freshwater marshes and water bodies mainly on or near the coast. |

It feeds on aquatic insects, small fish and shellfish and often feeds near livestock. In photo 2 it is seen in
front of a crocodile.
