They are found in semi-arid and arid areas near water and trees in which they find nest-hollows. It feeds on the
ground and the branches of trees on nuts, seeds, fruits and roots.
The Scot, Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Thomas Mitchell (1772-1885) was a famous explorer who wrote about the bird in his book Three Expeditions into the interior of Eastern Australia. |
