Australia The Helmeted Friarbird is distributed in Papua New Guinea, eastern Indonesia, Northern Territory and Queensland in Australia. It is found in a wide variety of forest and woodlands and is often seen in urban parks and gardens. |

It is one of the largest members of the honeyeater family with a small knob on the top of its bill and a red eye.
The dark grey facial skin is rounded behind the eye which distinguishes it from the Silver-crowned Friarbird P. argenticeps.
Photos 1 and 2 from north-east Queensland show the sub-species P. b. yorki while photo 3 from Kakadu is of the sub-species P. b. ammitophila showing only a vestigial casque on the bill. |

It is a noisy bird with a variety of harsh, warbling calls. |
