The Grey-tailed Tattler breeds along rivers and streams of the tundra and taiga of Siberia and Kamchatka and migrates to overwinter around the coasts of Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, New Guinea and Australia.

Grey-tailed Tattler, Cairns, Queensland, Australia, November 2010 - click for larger image It is very similar in looks to the Wandering Tattler T. incanus which is less common on the coasts of Queensland and also has a greyer back, a heavier bill and a shorter white eyebrow. Their calls are also very different.
