The Diamond Dove is distributed in the drier areas of the interior of mainland Australia. It is found in arid or semi-arid grassland with nearby sources of water.

It is a very small greyish dove with a long tail, reddish legs, a red eyering and spots on its brownish wings. This photo is of a juvenile bird which has grey legs, a buffy eyering and wing-bars rather than spots on the wings.
