The Brown Gerygone is endemic to the east coast of Australia and it is found in wet coastal and montane rainforest and in mangroves. It feeds mainly by gleaning insects from leaves and bark but occasionally sallies to catch its prey.

Brown Gerygone, Paluma, Queensland, November 2010 - click for larger image It is the smallest Australian Gerygone with a blackish lore and a pale supercilium extending to just behind the eye. The iris is either brick-red or dark brown and most tail feathers have a broad white spot near the tip.

The song is a brisk "diddle-it-did-it".
