Kangaroo Island, SA, Australia March 2006 The Banded Lapwing is distributed in Australia mainly south of the Tropic of Capricorn and in Tasmania. It is usually found in open grassy areas but in more arid parts than Masked Lapwing V. miles and less often at the coast. |

It is noticeably smaller than Masked Lapwing and has a black U-shaped breast band and a white eyestripe. It also has a small red wattle above the yellow bill. | |||
