The Australian Raven is distributed in eastern Australia and south-west Western Australia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in a variety of habitats from woodland and scrub to pastures. |

It is distinguished from both Forest Raven and Little Raven by its shaggy throat hackles which are much longer
than in the other two species. Photo 3 from Western Australia shows the sub-species C. c. perplexus which is slightly smaller and with shorter
throat hackles than the nominate sub-species shown in photos 1 and 2.
It has a distinctive wailing, almost baby-like call. |
