The Australian Raven is distributed in eastern Australia and south-west Western Australia. It is found in a variety of habitats from woodland and scrub to pastures.

Australian Raven, Wyperfield, Victoria, February 2006 - click for larger image It is distinguished from both Forest Raven and Little Raven by its shaggy throat hackles which are much longer than in the other two species. It also has a distinctive wailing, almost baby-like call.
