Temminck's Stint breeds in the tundra around the Arctic Ocean from northern Scandinavia to eastern Siberia at the Bering Strait. It winters from Africa and the Mediterranean through the Middle East to India and south-east Asia. It is found in Abu Dhabi from August to early May.

It is small, short-legged and relatively dull and unmarked. In non-breeding plumage it is a dark grey-brown above with a pale grey-brown breast band paler in the centre. The sides of the tail and rump are white and the legs are yellowish. The bill is thin with a slight droop.
