Al Ain, Abu Dhabi
December 2010

The Ring Ouzel breeds in northern and western Europe, in the highlands of central and southern Europe an in Turkey, the Caucasus and northern Iran. In winter they migrate to southern Europe, north-west Africa, and central and southern Iran. They are a rare vagrant in Abu Dhabi and the sub-species involved is T. t. amicorum.

Common Myna, Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, December 2010 - click for larger image This sub-species differs from the nominate found in north-west Europe in having a whitish panel on the wings and a larger breast band. From the dullness of the breastband in photo 1 I suspect that this bird is a female and I think that the bird in photo 2 is probably a 1st-winter male.
