The Laughing Dove is distributed in most of Africa, the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula, Central Asia and the Indian sub-continent. It is generally found in drier habitats though it must have access to water and is often found in villages and parks.

Laughing Dove, Le Meridien Hotel, Abu Dhabi, March 2010 - click for larger image The sub-species found in the Middle East, S. s. cambayensis, is smaller and duller than the nominate form found in Africa. It is less rusty on the upperparts and the rump has a smaller area of blue-grey.
