The Laughing Dove is distributed in most of Africa, the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula, Central Asia and the Indian sub-continent. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.It is generally found in drier habitats though it must have access to water and is often found in villages and parks.

The birds in Africa belong to the nominate race and are noticeably larger and more rusty-coloured than the sub-species found in the Middle East and Central Asia.
