Pivot Fields, Dubai
November 2010

The Indian Roller is distributed from Iraq and south-east Arabia through Pakistan and India to south-central China and south-east Asia. For a distribution map see Birdlife International. It is found in open areas such as farmland, parks, gardens, etc., as well as dry woodland.

It waits on an exposed perch while it watches for large insects or small vertebrates on the ground when it flies to the ground to catch its prey beating it against the ground or the perch.
