The White-crowned Wheatear is distributed in Africa from the Sahel northwards and in the Middle East. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in the driest and hottest habitats in these areas including stony desert, wadis, cliffs, etc..

White-crowned Wheatear, Ouarzazate, Morocco, April 2014 - click for larger image It is all black with a white crown and a white tail with central black feathers. Younger birds have an all black crown.

Its song is rich, varied and can include mimicry of other birds.
