Huesca, Aragon, Spain Tengmalm's Owl is the name given to the Boreal Owl in Eurasia. It is distributed in the boreal forests of Europe, Asia and North America with scattered populations in mountainous regions further south such as the Pyrenees, the Alps and the Caucasus. It is a fairly small owl about the size of a Little Owl Athene noctua. Strictly nocturnal and hunting from the canopy for voles it is usually only seen in the vicinity of its nest in a tree hole as in this case. | ||||
