Merzouga, Morocco The Egyptian Nightjar breeds from Morocco across north Africa to Egypt and into the north of the Arabian Peninsula and through to Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and western Pakistan. Apart from the sedentary Egyptian population, they migrate to Africa south of the Sahara during the northern winter. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. |

They are found in desert and semi-desert areas.
The male's song is a long series of purring notes. |
