The White-breasted Kingfisher is distributed in Turkey and Egypt and from central Iraq through to eastern China and south into Indonesia.

It is found in a wide variety of habitats but is more common below 2,000 metres.
Upperparts are mainly turquoise while the head and most of the underparts are brown. The throat and centre of the breast are white.
