The Grey-chinned Minivet is distributed from the central Himalayas to south-east China and south through Myanmar, Thailand and Indochina to Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo.

It is found in various types of open forest, forest edge and secondary growth. During the breeding season it can be between 900 and 3050 metres.

The male is lead-grey on the crown and back and ash-grey on the ear coverts and cheeks while the chin is light grey and the throat is orange. Underparts are scarlet-orange.

The female, seen here in photos 3 and 4, has yellow replacing the orange and scarlet colouring. It is distinguished from other female minivets in Bhutan by having a grey forehead.
