The Gold-naped Finch is distributed in the Himalayas and into southern China and Myanmar. It is found in dense undergrowth in forest and in rhododendron shrubberies and bamboo thickets at between 1,600 and 4,000 metres..

Male Gold-naped Finch, Kori La, Mongar, Bhutan, April 2008 - click for larger image The male is black with a golden crown and nape as well as having some gold on the shoulder. It has a white stripe down the tertials. The female is olive-green above and brown below.
