The Scarlet-breasted Woodpecker is distributed from western Nepal and south-east Tibet to north-east India. It is found in broad leaved forest.

Male Crimson-breasted Woodpecker, Lingmethang Road, Mongar, Bhutan, April 2008 - click for larger image It has a white wing-patch and streaked underparts with a crimson patch on the breast which varies in size. The male, seen here, has red on the nape which is lacking in the female.
