The White-winged Cliff-chat is distributed in Ethiopia and Eritrea. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found on rocky slopes and near forest borders at between 1,500 and 2,500 metres.

White-winged Cliff-chat, Lalibela, Ethiopia, January 2016 - click for larger image The male looks very similar to the local race of Mocking Cliff-chat Thamnolaea cinnamomeiventris although the white on the wing is at the base of the primaries rather than the shoulder. Despite this similarity it is felt to be more closely related to the rock thrushes, hence its generic name of Monticola.
