The White-rumped Babbler is distributed in Ethiopia and adjacent areas of Eritrea, Somalia and South Sudan. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in dense scrub and at forest edges.

White-rumped Babbler, Lake Langano, Ethiopia, January 2016 - click for larger image There are 5 sub-species ranging from the nominate in the north with an entirely white head to T. l. omoensis in the south with a scaled head and black throat. The differences between sub-species seem to be clinal. The birds in these photos are probably T. l. lacuum.
