It has blackish plumage with
violet-green gloss and the head is buffy-white. In these photos
the head looks almost chestnut but should not be confused with
Forest Woodhoopoe P. castaneiceps which has the entire
head and neck chestnut coloured as well as having a horn-coloured
not red bill.
It feeds on beetles and other arthropods as well as small berries and seeds.
