The White-bellied Bustard is distributed in a band across sub-Saharan Africa and into the Horn of Africa and East Africa with populations also in the Congo Basin and South Africa. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in a variety of dry grassland habitats where it feeds on termites, locusts, other invertebrates, snails, lizards, grass seeds, etc..

The face pattern on this male is distinctive and the black line below the eye indicates that it is of the sub-species E. s. canicollis.
