The Western Bronze-naped Pigeon is distributed from Sierra Leone to Nigeria and into the Congo Basin. For a distribution map see Birdlife International. It is found in the forest and is usually in the canopy which makes it hard to see and harder to photograph.

At this distance the main features are the dark brown breast and belly contrasting with the grey head indicating that this bird is a male and the broad pale terminal band in the tail. It feeds mainly on fruit.

Its call is a series of clear coos.
