The Western Black-headed Batis is distributed in a broad band from the Congo Basin to Ethiopia and Eritrea. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in a variety of woodland and open bush.

These photos are of female birds with a dark brown breast band. The male has a black breast band.
