The Splendid Starling is distributed from Senegal along the coastal forest belt of West Africa and into the Congo Basin. It is a bird of the forest and forest patches where it forages mainly in the canopy for fruit and insects.

It is a large and noisy forest starling with a blackish band on the wings and tail and a creamy-white eye.
