The Souimanga Sunbird is endemic to Madagascar and the Aldabra Islands where it is found in a variety of forest habitats as well as parks and gardens. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.

Souimanga Sunbird, Berenty Reserve , Madagascar, November 2016 - click for larger image It is a small bird with a metallic green head, throat and back, a red breast band and a yellow belly. The sub-species shown here, C. s. apolis has a much paler belly than the nominate sub-species. The female has olive-green upperparts and yellow underparts with faint streaks.
