Sharpe's Apalis is distributed in West Africa from Sierra Leone to Ghana. It is found in lowland forest where it forages for insects mainly in the canopy. For this reason there are few photos of this bird. These photos of a male were taken from the fabulous Kakum Walkway.

Sharpe's Apalis, Kakum, Ghana, May 2011 - click for larger image The male is very dark with sooty-grey on the upperparts with a paler grey from the breast downwards on the underparts. The legs are pinkish-red and the eye is reddish-brown. The female has a deep buff throat.

The song is a rapid series of cherit-cherit notes varying in pace.

He also founded the British Ornithologists' Club in 1892 and edited its Bulletin for many years. The Bulletin is currently (2012) edited by Guy Kirwan.
