Kakum, Ghana The Red-headed Malimbe is distributed in the lowland forest of West and Central Africa. It feeds mainly in the canopy on insects which it finds by probing bark, moss and lichens behaving sometimes like a nuthatch but also hammers bark like a woodpecker as in photo 3. The male is all black with a bright red head and nape. The female, seen here, is similar but with a black forehead and forecrown. |
