Ghana and Ethiopia The Red-billed Hornbill is distributed in tropical Africa south of the Sahara except for areas of tropical forest. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in open savanna and woodland. |

It feeds on beetles, termites, grasshoppers, lizards and rodents which are often captured on the ground.
Photos 6 and 7 show part of a display we observed with wings being systematically opened and closed while the bird was perched in a tree. The call is a series of rhythmic notes. |
