Ethiopia and Madagascar

The Peregrine Falcon is a fairly cosmopolitan species found in most parts of the world and in a wide variety of habitats. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.

It feeds mainly on birds but also on insects and mammals such as bats and rats. The main method of hunting is to pursue its prey at great speed especially in a steep dive and killing its prey in mid-air.

We had long discussions about the identity of the bird in photos 2 and 3 in Madagascar. Initially we thought it was an immature Sooty Falcon but we ended in concluding it was an immature Peregrine Falcon. I would welcome any comments on this id.
