It feeds mainly on birds but also on insects and mammals such as bats and rats. The main method of hunting is to pursue its prey at great speed especially in a steep dive and killing its prey in mid-air. We had long discussions about the identity of the bird in photos 2 and 3 in Madagascar. Initially we thought it was an immature Sooty Falcon but we ended in concluding it was an immature Peregrine Falcon. I would welcome any comments on this id. |
