Some authorities treat it as a sub-species of Madagascar Magpie-robin C. albospecularis but Birdlife International split it. This is relatively easy to see when compared to the nominate C. albospecularis albospecularis which has a black belly but less easy when compared to the sub-species C. albospecularis inexspectatus which has a white belly. Further differences are its white tail feathers, the white stripe on the closed wing and the longer bill, wing and tail. | |||
