The Northern White-faced Owl is distributed in Africa south of the Sahara from Senegal and the Gambia to Ethiopia and south to Kenya. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in dry open woodland and savannas where it feeds on invertebrates and small mammals. It hunts from a perch and swoops down on its prey.
