The Nelicourvi Weaver is endemic to Madagascar where it is found in the north and east of the country. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in forest and forest edges up to 1,900 metres.

Unlike many weavers it is not gregarious and is usually found singly or in pairs.
