It is found in grassland, woodland, along rivers and near human
habitation.
It has a glossy blue crown and back, pale rufous cheeks, chin and throat and rufous underparts. The rump is rufous and the tail has long streamers though shorter than the similar Rufous-chested Swallow C. semirufa.
