The Mosque Swallow is distributed in Africa south of the Sahara and north of South Africa and Namibia. There is a distribution map at Birdlife International.

It has a glossy blue crown and back, pale rufous cheeks, chin and throat and rufous underparts. The rump is rufous and the tail has long streamers though shorter than the similar Rufous-chested Swallow C. semirufa.
