The Marabou is distributed in Africa south of the Sahara. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found on grasslands, lake borders, swamps, rivers as well as rubbish dumps and fishing villages.

It is a very large stork and has two inflatable sacs: one hangs below the neck and the other reddish one is on the hind neck.

It feeds on all manner of stuff including carrion and household scraps and also fishes in shallows.
