The Little Sparrowhawk is distributed in Africa from Eritrea and Ethiopia south to South Africa and west to Angola and Namibia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in open woodland and savannah where it hunts mainly small birds.

It is the smallest Accipiter hawk and is distinguished by its white rump and 2 white spots on the tail.
