Hunter's Sunbird is distributed in Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya and the extreme north of Tanzania. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in semi-arid bush country up to about 1,350 metres.

Hunter's Sunbird, Bogol Manyou Road, Ethiopia 2016 - click for larger image Both male and female are similar to Scarlet-chested Sunbird C. senegalensis which is found in very different habitat at forest edges and in wooded valleys.

These photos are of a female. The male is black with a red chest and green crown and malar stripe.

Henry Hunter (1861-1934) was a big game hunter and naturalist.
