The Hook-billed Vanga is endemic to Madagascar where it is distributed throughout most of the island where its habitat of forest, woodland and plantations exists. It is rarely found above 1,000 metres. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.

It feeds on large insects and vertebrates such as frogs, chameleons and small birds.
