Ankasa, Ghana Hartlaub's Duck is distributed in Equatorial West Africa where it is found in secluded pools and marshes, rivers and streams in dense forest. Because of its habitat it tends to be difficult to see. |

It is a fairly large duck
with a dark head and dark chestnut body. The wing coverts are
pale blue and can be seen well in photo 1. The bill is blackish
with a pale tip. The male has white at the base of the bill but
this is lacking in the female.
No nest has been found in the wild yet but it is presumed that they nest in tree-hollows. |
