Ethiopia The Grey-headed Woodpecker is distributed in Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in highland woodlands up to an altitude of 2,500 metres. These photos show male birds with red crown and hindcrown. The female has an all-grey head. It is distinguished from the similar Grey Woodpecker D. goertae by the darker grey of the head and underparts, the plainer, less barred wings and a red belly patch (not visible in these photos). |
