The Greater Blue-eared Starling is distributed in much of Africa south of the Sahara in dry savanna woodland, bush country and gardens. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is probably the most common starling in these areas. In Ethiopia it is found between 500 and 2,400 metres.

Note the yellow eyes and the iridescent blue-green plumage with black ear coverts.

It feeds on fruits and insects.
