The Crested Drongo is endemic to Madagascar and the Comoros. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in primary and secondary forest as well as woodland even with only a few scattered trees.

It feeds on insects, spiders, small vertebrates such as chameleons and also fruit. It is usually seen on a perch from which it sallies to catch insect prey.
