The Chestnut-bellied Starling is distributed throughout the Sahel region from southern Mauritania to Ethiopia. It is found in dry thornbush country and farmland where it feeds mainly on insects and some fruit.

Chestnut-bellied Starling, Tono Dam, Ghana, June 2011 - click for larger image It is a rather small starling with rufous-chestnut belly and undertail coverts and with a creamy-white eye. In flight it shows a conspicuous pale wing patch as seen in photo 3.

The nest (photo 4) is a free-standing ball of grass with a side entrance normally built in a thorn bush.
