The Beautiful Sunbird is distributed in the grassland areas of tropical Africa. For a distribution map see Birdlife International.

The most significant feature of the male is the long tail streamers. The body is mainly glossy green with a red breast bordered on the flanks with yellow.

A common vocalization is a rapid series of chip notes.
