The Yellow-tufted Dacnis is distributed in the Andes of Colombia with a disjunct population on the west of the Andes in Ecuador. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in the canopy and borders of forest and woodland.

Yellow-tufted Dacnis, Rio Silanche, Pichincha, Ecuador, November 2019 - click for larger image Some authorities regard it as a sub-species of Black-faced Dacnis D. lineata which is visually distinct in the male having white rather than yellow on the underparts and both male and female lacking the yellow tuft at the bend of the wing seen here.
