The Yellow-throated Spadebill is distributed in the Andes from western Venezuela to southern Peru. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. It is found in relatively open understory at between 750 and 2,300 metres.

It is overall fairly yellow, paler below but with a brighter yellow throat.
