Parque de Zizo, São Paulo, Brazil November 2006 The Yellow-fronted Woodpecker is a southern replacement for the Yellow-tufted Woodpecker (Melanerpes cruentatus) of the Amazon basin. It is found mainly in Brazil from Bahia and Minas Gerais southwards as well as in Paraguay and northern Argentina. Its forehead and throat are bright yellow while, in the male, the crown and nape are red. It drums on tall trees and flies from tree to tree singing "benedito" |
